Strategy, bot, or alert? How the TrendWake Lab actually works

2026-07-20

One object, three modes

The thing you build in the Lab is a strategy: an engine (trend-follow, breakout, mean-reversion, EMA trend…), your tuned rules, and a watchlist of up to 50 symbols it's allowed to trade. Everything else is a question of what you do with it:

  1. Backtest it — free, instant, zero data cost. The Lab replays your rules over years of cached history and shows the honest numbers: return, profit factor, drawdown, every simulated trade.
  2. Alert on it — flip on Lab alerts and TrendWake pings you when your strategy fires in the real market. You stay the trader; the strategy is your scanner.
  3. Run it as a bot — the big one. "Run as bot" turns the same strategy into a paper trading account that trades your rules automatically every night.

Same strategy, one click between modes. Nothing is duplicated.

Where things live

The Lab's four tabs follow the journey:

  • Build a strategy — the workshop: rules, watchlist, and every strategy you've created.
  • Backtest — replay the house strategies (and yours) over history, free.
  • My bots — your cockpit: every bot you're running, its record, its journal, its grouped strategies, and the "go public" switch. Hit "Run as bot" and this is where it appears.
  • Standings — the arena: the house bots' live public records.

A strategy and its bot are the same object seen from different tabs — build it in one, run it in another, compare it in the last.

What happens when you hit "Run as bot"

Your bot gets its own paper account (fresh capital, your position-sizing rules) and joins the nightly tick: after each close, it evaluates your watchlist against your rules, opens and closes positions with slippage and commission modeled, and books every trade. From that moment it keeps a full journal — the same reports a human journal gets (win rate, profit factor, SQN, drawdown, calendar) — visible in the Lab under its Journal tab and in the Bots hub.

Pausing a bot keeps its whole record; it just stops advancing. Deleting a strategy is always yours to do.

Earning the megaphone

A bot's record is private to you at first. After 5 closed trades you can make it your public bot — its trades post to Trending under your profile, graduation gets announced, and your record becomes part of your reputation. One public bot per trader: make it your best.

Pro runs up to 3 bots (each can group up to 3 strategies); Premium runs 10 with up to 5 strategies per bot. Building and backtesting are free forever.

Paper accounts only — simulated results, not financial advice.
